Ok here is my question..... any of you guys that have put a locker in your truck pull with it much?does the locked diff create any problems with turning? . . while towing. I had a toyota with a detroit and loved it... but a toy barely weighs as much as my engine now!! . . kidding. . but seriosly..... any drawbacks for a bigger truck that is used once in while for hauling ?? Jim

If youre gonna tow with it the detroit locker is still the strongest out there I would recomend it I doubt you would even hear it and when youre tuning just coast around the turn because with those lockers anytime torque is applied from the driveshaft the locker is locked up so as you let off the gas thats when it dissengages but Ive never had or heard of one failling

Jim,

95% of the mileage on my truck is towing. GCW varies from 18,000 to 24,000lbs and my detroit locker works great. The newer ones aren't as noisy as the older ones. Except for the good traction, you almost forget that you have a locker. Only time it is noticeable is making sharp turns in a parking lot etc. You will feel when it engages. This can cause a little extra wear on the rear tires. I run BFG ATs and get about 40K out of them rotating them regularly so the extra wear isn't that bad.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I had a 91 Toyota locked in the rear with 5. 29s and 33" tires. If I had alot of wieght in the bed)over 500lbs lot for a toyota) it wouldn't steer near as good lol. I imagine the wieght of a fiver would make dragging the rear tires around corners pretty tough. Just my . 02
