Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Rear Diff Thread Again..........

At the risk of hi-jacking a thread thought I should start another. After you guys pull your rear diff cover... ... ... how are you cleaning the mateing surface of the diff? I can clean the cover just fine. But when it comes to the diff side of the surface I am worried about dropping stuff on the gears or somewhere and not finding it and contaminating the oil once back together. I try scraping with a razor blade as best as I can but there always seems to feel like there is still a residue left. I do not want to spray any cleaners and such on the surface for fear of overspray getting on the surface of the gears... ..... How do you all do it?

I lay a rag over the ring gear while cleaning.
