What would be the capacity of the stock rear differential on my CTD 2500 4x4?

I'll be changing fluid and using the 75-140W Mopar Synthetic.

How many ounces of friction modifier will it take?

Thanks

On a level. flat surface, between 3 - 3 1/2 quarts - to fill to just at the fill hole - some of us prefer to slightly elevate the rearend of the truck, and get a full 4 quarts in... After changing, and BEFORE adding ANY modifier, drive a few miles, including a half dozen or so figure "8's" to warm and fully distribute the new lube - THEN, if any grabbing or "chatter" is detected from the rearend, add NO MORE than 1 small bottle of the DC differential friction-modifier, then try the above again - chances are you won't need ANY modifier - if you DO, you probably won't need more than a single bottle, but can add more if needed...

Thanks Gary. That will be my first task tomorrow morning. The cover is back on and the sealant is 'setting' overnite before adding the fluid.

Gary is right, you probably wont get more than 3 1/2 qts into that read diff. I would definatly add one bottle of friction modifier from dodge. I went with the AMSOIL SERIES 2000 75-90W. I also installed a MAG-HYTEC rear diff cover. It took almost 6 quarts and 1 1/2 bottles of friction modifier. Also, when you remove the factory diff cover you will notice a stamped in number on the flat finished surface of the axel. make you you cover that well with the sealant you are going to use to prevent any leaks. Hope this helps.

J J, A good sealer for the Diff cover is from Permatex. Cheese Wiz type applicator and NO waiting to put the oil in after installing the cover. It's called "the Right Stuff".
