A 2005 Ram 2500 4x4 is supposed to have an anti-spin differential.

With both rear wheels jacked off the ground and you rotate the right rear forward and the left rear goes backwards.

Is this normal with an anti-spin differential? Is there any simple way without removing the cover on the differential to verify that it is an anti-spin unit?

Thanks

Jack up one side, try to rotate wheel, if it moves freely it's an open rear, if it locks/drags it's a limited slip.

Test 1: Find either a gravel road or an enemy's yard and drop the throttle. Two strips = anti-spin differential; one strip = open differential.

Test 2: Look at the sticker in the glovebox and search for a code labeled DSA "Anti Spin Differential".

Hope this helps.

I think all limited slips do the same when both tires are off the ground they should spin in the same direction. My 01 did. I haven't tried this one yet since they are different types.

My 03 spins as described above, one forward the other reverse if they are both in the air. On the ground with power being applied they always spin together.

The search feature is your friend :)

This has been discussed at length. Just search the word Torsen and sit back and do some reading. Pretty informative.
