I would like to know how much lubrication modifier to use. What type oil and capacity? Do I really need to change the oil in the front diff at 30,000 miles. Rear diff gets most of the work. 16,300 lbs total combined weight w/5er. About 2,000 miles per year and steep grades along the way. Thank for any help.

If you go with the Royal Purple synthetic 85W-140, you probably don't need to add any friction modifier as it's already in the formulation. Ours worked just fine with the Royal Purple straight out of the bottle - we tow a 13,500 lb 5ver and are at 21,180 GCW (21,500 GCWR) on the road.

Rear Diff oil change

I don't tow as heavy as you but I'm glad I changed it at 30,000. Like RustyJC - Royal Purple did not require any LSD additive - in fact I think it is a little loose compared to the OEM Dino oil and friction modifier it came with.

I have heard it can take up to 8oz (2 bottles) with conventional oil.

I used a castrol product with the friction additive pre mixed from castrol. It just says Castrol Limmited Slip Gear Lube on the bottle, its from their heavy duty lubricants line. Im not partial to castrol products, it just happens to be what the mom and pop parts shop I use carries.

As good as anything else non-synthetic.
