2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Rear Disc Brakes on an 01

I've got what I thought was an '01. 5 Ram, due to it having disc brakes all the way around (I bought it used a few months back). When I checked the build date, it shows as November of 2000.



If my info is correct, then this truck is an '01. And if that is true, were rear disk brakes available as an option on the '01s?



Any thoughts?

My 01 was built in January of 2000. Because of polution controls they started the model year early to sneak it in. Those of us that got the early trucks got screwed out of the rear discs. That is also why there are so many 2001 trucks, they had a long model run.

Mine also has disc rear, built in Nov. 01 bought used last march with 20k miles, I have the window sticker, no mention of disc option. Chris

4 wheel discs, build date 11/2000 in mexico.



Someone mentioned that they might start using discs if they ran out of drum parts, which were normal for the 2000's.

Probably sometime in July 2000.

I know DC stopped accepting orders for 2001's in early May. They started building 2002's on July 25, 2001. My 2002 was built in Mexico on July 31, 2001, and I took delivery on August 15, 2001.



I would imagine the timetable for the 2001's was similar, albeit a year earlier.

My build date was Jan 00 for my 01. They had an extended run for the 01 year. They brought out the 01's early to avoid some kind of pollution controls.

Now can anyone tell me what is generally considered to be the cutoff date for the '01 vs. the '01. 5? An exact date isn't necessary, but close would be ok. I'm starting to think mine might be considered to be an '01. 5.



I also made a mistake in my first post - mine was built in October of 2000, not November, at the North St. Louis plant.

My 01 was built March of 2000. I picked it up April 1, 2000. No 4 whl. discs.

I think the cut off date varied from plant to plant.

If you have 4 wheel discs then you have a 01. 5.

That is the only difference that I am aware of between the two.



Unless someone put a conversion on?

and then effectively you would still have an 01. 5.

I have an '01 - ordered in March of '00 and delivered in May'00. I have drum rears.



From what I understand the '01. 5's with the four wheel discs started showing up in the summer (roughly July) of '00. Apparantly I missed the rear dicsc by about 2 months or so.

I believe Scooby is correct - the switch was in June or July. But at least we got the vanity mirrors, Scoob!



I ordered mine on Feb 17, 2000. It was built on April 10, 2000. I believe the 2000 trucks are a relatively rare bird - they didn't make them very long - for the reason Garrett stated above. Course, I've always considered mine pretty much a 2000 with a 2001 label. I don't think there are any real differences between the 2000s and 2001s, but there are differences between the 2001s and 2001. 5s - the rear discs being the most significant. :{
