Just wondering if anyone knows of a company that makes a kit. I absolutely hate drum brakes and would very much like to have disc rear on my '96.

Anyone done this to their truck? Hows it work, worth it?

Thanks,

-R. J.

Look around this site. The disc brake kits are in there somewhere but are tough for me to find. I did see them the other day. I did find that the part # is 4601 and it is for 2500 (single wheel) Dana 70/80 only. Not for 3500 DRW.

Just completed rear disc conversion on my 99 2500. Purchased the parts including slotted rotors from EGR Brakes, www.egrbrakes.com. Member Pablo Madrid did the work and with much patience(we had some parts snafus) he pulled it off. The period in which he performed the conversion happened to be when owner Glenn was out of town and was only open 2-3 days a week. This really slowed Pablo down as tech support was not there. I think Glenns back on schedule now. Results: slightly more pedal travel and slightly spongier feel but the truck stops as never before. I've only put 200 miles on it and the pads are not bedded in by no means so it should continue to improve. Parking brake leaves something to be desired but we'll readjust at 450-500 miles

Good stuff. Thanks for all the help. Anyone have a cost for a kit, not installed. I plan on doing the work myself. Does the conversion kit use some special pads, or are replacement parts readily available.

Thanks again,

-R. J.

With the EGR kit I used replacement parts are readily available. Cost was $1,075 w/slotted rear rotors. The other source posted sounds $250-$300 bucks cheaper. You might try them but I went w/EGR as they've been in business for awhile. We still ran into some difficulties even w/EGR. I went w/Sam Patterson's pads and high-performance front rotors plus oversize rear wheel cylinders with marginal results. Finally,I can stop this truck pretty safely. Short of selling mine and borrowing $20,000 it was the only choice at this time. I've got my eye on an 07 as it sounds pretty good.
