Completed my rear disc system from ground up. What a difference. Now i have a brake system that stops when i need it and straight for once. I installed 3 weeks ago and tested by driving up north through the canyon and back, round trip of 1100 miles, with big hills and pulling a bogger on the trailer.

The drums were always a pain in the **s as i would have to crawl under every month or so to re-adjust the slack adjuster. Always had a problem with the right rear locking up and draging all the time since buying the truck new in 93.

Check it out and let me know if you want me to put a system together for you. If interested P. mail me and i will send you a price list for 89 and up dana 70's.

p. s. need help to post pic's as site says they are too big?

I can post the pictures on my server, that way you can make them whatever size you like. You can then just put a link to them in a post, and it'll look just like they were on the TDR server.

Regardless, I'm definitely interested!

Mike

I'm definately interested in a parts list and an overall cost. I'm debating whether to go with a local company to have them do this conversion... even though it's a tad over 2G's

Kev

If you wanted rea disk brakes, wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to swap a axle from a 2001. 5 and newer truck? Is is straight bolt on?

Charles

Garrett , Dana 80 is possible... will need to do somemore R&D.

Mike, sounds good. Will try sending them. :)

Kev, 2k is way out of line. :--)

Charles, ever price a disc rear end let alone a drum rear end. :--) Yes it is a straight bolt on system. Couple hours job if you know how to swing a wrench. Comes in red, yellow and black for the picky ones.

Will not work on duelly's!!!!!!! unless 19. 5" rims or larger.

Mark,

I have not priced a rear axle, but I figure they should not cost more than 1,000 dollars at a junk yard. It is not like you're buying a reverse rotation D60 front axle.

I wonder if TSM in Colorado will be making any rear disk conversion kits for our D80 axles?

Charles

Charles,

I believe it was TSM in which I talked to that quoted me 2G's.

Now that Mark is saying that number is wayyy outta line, I can't wait to hear what it really cost... .

Mark is there anyway you can PM me with a price as to what it costed you?

Thanks

Kev

Kevin,

2K... Ouch! My friend bought a rear disk brake conversion for his Toyota FJ60 for around 500-600 which had the rotors and mount.

2K is too much.

Charles

I thought the 80 in our trucks is a hybrid using an 80 center but 70 axle tubes and outers. Wouldn't the disk conversion be the same for both in this case?

hey why was this moved to here it was in the first gen forum because it was a rear disc swap for first gen trucks... . i've been looking for it there also oh well. . hey nascar mark. . what did the price turn out to be im interested for my 89 1 ton. . thanks

deo

Posted pics on 1st gen page by mistake. So take a look at them before they get moved.

Deo, Can build for any dodge not just 1st gen. :D

Mark, yes the cost is in U. S. dollars. I also want to say very nice job of fabricating and installing your own system. I posted the link to The Streetrod Manufacturing Co. for those of us who don't have the skills to make our own system but might be able to install a system in kit form. Are you considering offering your system as a kit to others?

P. S. I do not have a rear disc system from the above company but am thinking about it when funds become available.

Mike

We did a rear disk brake conversion on a Toyota Land CRuiser using the parts from TSM. The only thing I didn't like was using the El Dorado rear disk calipers with emergency brake. Does anyone have a good alternative caliper that provides a good emergency brake?

Charles

This thread has my attention! When I went to 19'5" wheels, the only negative was decreased breaking power. It makes sense since the larger wheel would exert more force. Anyway, the breaking isn't terrible, just not as good as it was with the stock wheels. Dynatrac does disc wheel conversions and their materials and workmanship are top notch, so I've heard. They are not cheep either. I would love to hear about someone doing a quality kit conversion!

Mike,

I'm not real crazy about El Dorado calipers because of the way their emergency brake is setup. It does not work real well compared to something like a ford motorsport rear disk brakes on say a expedition or explorer.
