2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Rear discs............question

Was rear discs an option or was it put on for certain rigs? My 01 QC short bed has them, father in law's 01 LB does not... ... ... ... ... ?????

Also, does having rear discs eliminate the problem drums had (not helping much on stoppage)?

This is why some are called 2001. 5's. Early production 2001's had drum brakes on the rear. Partway through the production year DC changed over to 4 wheel discs.

I believe it was around July 2000 the '01 trucks started showing up with rear disks. The 2001 trucks built during Jan - June 2000 had drums. It was at this time we began to notice many things were being deleted. . . trucks with drums were missing fender liners, hood liners, lighted vanity mirrors, tailgate applique, no more painted intercoolers, etc. A lucky few had the disks AND the items most were missing, but these trucks were rare.

I have an early 01 built in jan 2000 due to that PT Cruiser stuff... . But I have all those things you mentioned and then I changed to the EGR Disks and bought the Slotted rotors for the front with the carbon Kevlar pads... .

rear disks

anyone know of easy way to retrofit disks onto rear of 2000 3500? my drums do not help much. the front brakes squeak badly?

EGR Has a conversion kit but it is for the SWR trucks. That is what I have. Here is the web-site for you to browse http://www.egrbrakes.com/index-main.htm



On the front brakes, I bought the slotted rotors with the carbon Kevlar pads. Makes them work much better with less dust on the rims.

Boys, I put on a pair of those NAPA Big brake cylinders today and what a difference--I may not need those rear discs now--didn't know what having rear brakes were like--sure do now--of course I might have to replace the rear shoes more than ever 100k now!!!! R, J. B. Oo.

Jbone, did you just ask napa about bigger cylinders? i know i need to change the shoes if i keep the drums. i know the tech at the dealer who did the reconditioning of my truck before i bought it, and he said they put new shoes on but they were the cheapest shoes carquest had. thanks all for the info.
