I need a new rear drive shaft for my 2015 2500 crewcab 4x4 short bed diesel with automatic. I called my local dealer today to try to get a good part number but sat on hold and just hung up. After doing alot of online looking I'm still confused. Mine is one piece all aluminum all one diameter front to back. There is a sticker on it but no longer able to read what it says. Looking online I keep seeing 3 separate parts numbers. But it seems all the gas and diesel trucks with same bed size and crew cab all use the same shaft ? But there is a steel version ? I don't think 1/2 trucks would be the same but could be since it listed in with 2500 trucks on one shaft but not the other. Trying to buy a used drive shaft online but want the right one. 300 right now fits the budget over 1k for new. Anyone got any insight on the issue ?

Can you take the drive shaft to a driveling company and have the drive shaft rebuilt? Or do you want another shaft for something else?

I just realized I posted this in the wrong section. But ty for replying. I can but same situation. Only one guy in my area that is capable of doing the work and actually stocks the aluminum tube required. But he still wants almost a grand to reuse my yokes on a new tube plus tig welding it out and balancing plus 3 weeks before he could even get to it. I can find shafts at lkq and on ebay from used parts suppliers but no one can tell me yeah or ney on the fit. They all use their own internal part numbering system. The one place that's has them on eBay for around 3-4 hundred is just to big of a place to care enough to go out and look and help you. So if I did order one and it was wrong it would be on me I guess. Kinda of a I need one but don't need to buy a new one if I can help it situation.

That's kinda my question. Sorry might not have been to clear on that. I can find parts numbers but no description of what shaft is what and it seems like there are 3 different shafts listed for almost the entire range of trucks. All i can find is a description of bed size and motor but there are still options for different part numbers. Do any sites let you look up by Vin numbers ?

Well I must not be looking in the right place or right site. Does anyone have a link or site they could point me towards.

Use the search by VIN# tab.

Use the search by VIN# tab.
I'm not so sure this is the panacea...

I just put my VIN in and the very next screen asks me to select the vehicle's engine and trim. I only get to choose from SLT trim in either V8 - Gas or L6 - Diesel.

Presumably the trim could be gleaned from a lookup in Mopar's vehicle database, but my truck has the Laramie trim which is not even an option.

Worse yet, the VIN that I typed in clearly indicates engine code "C" (i.e., 5.9L 6 cyl. Turbo Diesel High Output), so no database lookup is even required to verify the correct engine, yet I still have to choose.

Does not inspire confidence.

Edit: I should clarify, I used "mymoparparts.com"

OK, Rember you are probably using a service program that was written by a computer nerd who probably drives a LEAF and doesn't understand the product. I used to run into this at CAT. all of the time when dealing with service parts. Trying to figure out what the real service part was when I was in the field with no parts book for that machine. The service tree for parts would lead you down a crocked path to maybe the correct part. For the most part the induvial parts on that tractor had a part number on it, but sometimes the part number was missing.

The OP is looking for help in finding the right part number and has been repeatedly referred to online Mopar parts vendors websites and told to use the "search by VIN" option. Further, the OP has told there are several part numbers, but the descriptions are not sufficiently precise.

When I searched my truck's drive shaft using my VIN on mymoparparts.com I was given 6 options, each of which stated "This part fits your 2004 Dodge Ram 3500." I was able to find 5 of them in my 2004 parts fiche:

52105641AF for 6 Speed Manual (5600) - 140.5 WB
52105642AF for 6 Speed Manual (5600) - 160.5 WB
52123138AC Not found in my parts fiche
52853029AE for 5 Speed HD Manual (4500) - 140.5 WB
52853030AE for 5 Speed HD Manual (4500) - 160.5 WB
52853070AB for 4 Speed Automatic (48RE) - 160.5 WB

My truck is a long bed, quad cab w/ 48RE, so ONLY the last one seems to be correct. But I was only able to determine this by consulting the fiche, the dealer website was not helpful. BTW, some of the above website results list their applications, but those were useless too; from the 52123138AC page:

  • Applications: 4x4 Mega Cab 4x2. 4x4 Quad Cab 4x2 Long Wheelbase. 4x4 Quad Cab 4x2 Short Wheelbase. 4x4 Regular Cab 4x2.
Clearly that can't be right!

My point is, the online dealers websites might not be all that helpful in this case, even with the VIN. Maybe as an alternative somebody with a copy of the 2015 parts fiche could look it up? If I had one, I would.

This one from moparonlineparts.com is the best. I looked it up in my parts fiche and it in the "Case and Related Parts - 6 Speed [5600] (DEE)" section. The description reads "SPACER, Final Drive, 1.26mm." Interestingly, when I opened the "Vehicle Fitment" tab, only Dodge and Chrysler vehicles were listed, not a single Alfa! But since I used my VIN, it has to be the right part for my 48RE. Right?
