I’m sure like many of you, bad things always happen when you’re nowhere near home. Coming out of the woods last night, 300 miles from home, I lost the internals from one cap on the rear most u joint. I removed the drive shaft and pressed out all three joints. From the looks of them, all three are the same model joint. I’m replacing all three since I have the shafts out.
Now, I know opinions vary, but what are the pros and cons of sealed and serviceable joints? What brands would you recommend and which to stay away from? I’ve always used Spicer, but some say they don’t properly fit or aren’t recommended for our trucks. BTW, I have a ‘14 3500 4wd SRW crew cab LWB G56.

I just installed a set of Spicer in my 2013. I found no issues with fitting. I went with serviceable type. I give everything , ball joints, a shot of grease every 5k miles. I’ve never had a serviceable set fail with this kind of attention.

Looks like Spicer has added the AAM applications....they did not offer these a few years back...

I appreciate everyone’s help!!

Is anyone familiar with SKF u joints? This is what’s available to me right now. I’m kind of in a predicament, and need to get this done today. My truck is broke down in the woods and I need to get it out. If the SKF are just a mediocre joint, I can always order the good ones and change them out when they come in.

Decide which positions you want part numbers for, in this case it is 5,7 and 9.

Select those three at the bottom, buttons turn blue as selected.

Then hit the "FILTER" button in Lower RH corner..

I wouldn't be afraid of the SKF, especially to get the truck together and home. They may not last quite as long as the Spicer and then again they just might...

I come up with a UJ-358BF or a UJ-358.

I agree on sealed. They are stronger and have better seals.

If you're diligent about greasing the greasable can last as long or longer, but miss a couple applications and they don't last.

The wife's 4Runner is on the OEM greasable joints at 203K. I grease them every 5K miles, give or take how quick the wife tells me she is at the 5K mile interval.

Even with that great service record I still think sealed is a better option for most.
