Redid the rear drums this week, now they keep unadjusting them selfs, whats up with this, I've marked the star wheels and they keep moving, any ideas... ... ...

I'm thinking the only way that could happen is if you switched sides with the screwed part of the adjusters, one has to be left hand thread and the other right hand thread. The short shoe goes to the front, the adjuster cable is at the rear. Bg

He's right. I hate to say this but you have to take one drum back off. now pluck the cable to make the pawl move the starwheel. If the adjuster threads in, you have em switched. They are threaded left and right. The adjuster should thread out. Also, the threaded part of the adjuster is always on the front shoe.

Took wheel s off again! and checked everything out, also did some plucking... have no clue!! also went back to some pics i had taken years ago when i did the rears the 1st time... . all looks good.

Did you replace at the hardware when you did the drums? If the spring that holds the lever against the star wheel gets weak they will back off or not adjust. If you have never done the hardware kit and have any miles on the truck, consider doing it.

When you pluck the cable, you're pulling the pawl (the little pork chop the cable hooks to) you're pulling it up. This rotates the starwheel and pulls the side facing you up. you can also try to spin the starwheel against the pawl and it should click on each tooth (this is clicking you hear when you adjust the brakes- if everything is OK). When you do this, the adjuster should thread out. What cerberusiam said is also correct, and sometimes the pawl won't even touch the wheel, sometimes I give it a little tweak to that it does. Either way you must hear the click when you spin the adjuster, or it can back off.

WOW, I remember that day and yes that was a good time. . that was years ago. LOL... ... ... Put 700 miles on truck pulling the trailer and boat, all seem to be ok with the rear brakes so far, will still keep an eye on them... ... ... Thanks for the Pic Bob
