On my 96 are the rear drums slide off or do I have to monkey around with the lock nut and pulling the axles I have the 8800 GVW truck 3/4t 4X4... Rick

The drum just slides off.

The easiest way to get them off is to:

Jack up the rear of the truck take the rear tires off.

put a lug nut back on one of the studs so the drum doesn't fall off.

then start the truck and put it in low and hit the brakes hard.

then in reverse do the same thing. the drums will be broken lose and ready to come off.

The above trick works pretty well. I just changed the drums and shoes on my truck. The passenger side did not break free after about 10 cycles. It took a lot of penetrating oil and gentle persuasion with a 3 pound sledge.

Only thing I'd add to Dbonzi's post is to make sure both rear tires are off the ground, and place two appropriate capacity jackstands under the vehicle before starting the truck.

We'd like to have you around afterwards to post how it went.

;)

BOY you guy's aren't kidding I beat on those drums with a brass punch, hammer,I tried everything then I tried the hit the brake thing man the drum came flying off,so cool..... But the rear brakes are like new and I have a low pedal and the ABS light still comes on I already replaced the sensor... It almost like its climatical when it rains it goes out when its nice it comes on???but why the low pedal?new front pads rears are adjusted up... when I hit the brake I can't get my foot behind the pedal thats how low it is... or is this normal?

I'll check my brake pedal and let you know. I don't think mine goes that low. If everything else checks out, you may want to flush/bleed the brakes. How old is the brake fluid? I plan on doing this soon, plan on swapping the front brakes to the EGR setup when I rebuild the front end in a couple of weeks/

Have you manually adjusted the rear brakes? The "automatic" adjusters work when they feel like it, if they work at all.
