MINE DID

REPLACED THE ENTIRE ASSY FIRST TIME THEN THE RING AND PINION AND SOME BEARINGS 10K LATER. TOOK THEM ABOUT 2 DAYS TO GET PARTS AND A DAY TO INSTALL.

GOOD LUCK

I've had noise, which is almost gone . . thank the lord, and I did have to have mine rebuilt at 2200 miles ( Ring pinion, etc) but have not had a failure...

My ring and pinion were replaced at about 15,000 miles. Noise is now gone but only about 1000 miles since replacement. Took them a day and a half to do the job. Took a week to get the parts but the truck remained in service until the repair was done.

Well it has been there 8 days so far and the thing is getting a ring and pinion and pretty much everything else just short of a complete rear. It had a bunch of metal and chunk's of gear in it. I hate that we spend this much on these trucks and when they go in for work it is up to us to find a way around till they are done j**king off. No loaner unless you get the extended warranty. Gotta go now I feel the blood pressure going up!!

My rear end was rebuilt at about 18,000 miles, Dealer had it almost a week but I was out of town, I wonder if they actually replaced the ring and pinion or just some bearings and a seal, It was in for a 20MPH Howl(which I still slightly hear when cold) and a pinion seal leak that got pretty bad by the time I brought it in. I have 25,000 on it now... . Time will tell

Mine howled from brand new but waited until 60,000 miles to have it repaired, now have new gears & bearings & dead quiet at all speeds. IMHO this is BS as there are tooo many noisy diffs considering the cost of the trucks.

Yep, had my pinion seal replaced too, at about 5,000 miles. THats when it got bad enough to start dripping! It had " Seeped" since new but was told it was breaking in and would " Seat" itself very soon... . never did... . 2nd one seems to be great!

I wonder if they (D/C) will warranty the rearend if you have a Sixgun and speed loader on your truck? It's comforting to know that just about everthing American made is crap!

Well got the truck back after 2 weeks and the overhead is reading 11. 6 mpg!Feels like their is an anchor dragging behind now. Going on vacation for 2 weeks and will see if it changes after the trip if not back to the dealer. If the milage does not improve this thing is going!I will get another 02 or 01.

If something in the rear end is dragging, a long highway trip should melt it for you. I say that as a good thing, since that way the dealer will know EXACTLY what's wrong with it the day you bring it in... none of this "diagnostics" crapola they usually do to you (read: they can't say "they all do that, it's normal"). ;)

For the first week it did nothing but sit in their back lot and get sun stroke!Friday afternoon they finally ordered the parts. Aint goin back to that dealer for nothing!

edit:Whats up with these 15000 mile services?I think the american axle is junk compaired to the Dana!Never had any problems with any Dana I've ever had and they had a lot more HP through them than this one has!

I'm not quite ready to condemn the American Axle design. There have been quite a lot of problems here with howling and otherwise grenaded rear ends, though. At least, it seems like there have been many complaints.

I agree that the 15000 mile interval is absolutely ridiculous, especially considering it costs me over $100 for the synthetic fluid every time I change it. Once my warranty is up I may switch to a 30000 mile interval instead.
