Has anyone tried a locker in these trucks. I like my limited slip but sometimes need a little bit more. I was wondering about a locker for the Dana 80. Would it work and hold up or would it be more trouble than its worth?

The Dana 80 is a huge axle. I dont think there is much you can do to hurt it. I believe Detroit Locker is the only locker available for the 80 and they say if you do alot of heavy towing, the Detroit is not for you. The ideal option would be an ARB air locker, but I dont think they have it for our beast. Hope this helps!

I just got rid of a 91 toyota that was locked in the rear. It would be a bad thing to have with a load in the bed or a trailer. I put about 750lbs in the bed of the toyota and it would hardly steer due to the wieght on the rear wheels and the fact that it could not slide the inside tire easily. Worked killer offroad though. If you stay epmty %90 of the time lock it. If you pull and haul alot in the bed stay away from it IMO

What type of locker did you have in the rice burner???? Or did it have a $25. 00 spool in it. Lockers ratchet around corners so the inside wheel will turn slower than the outside tire.

I ran Detroits front and rear in my last 4 pickups, 3 gassers and a psd. put over 250k on each of the gassers w/o as much as a seal leak, the psd the rear end was ok but the psd had some fatal flaws that Ford would not address untill out of warranty so I traded it just before it was 36k old.

If you want to compare apples to apples then don't compare a ulra lite to a Lear.

I hadn't thought about the load not allowing the rachet or slip needed. With the loads I haul I would be out of lock without an ARB as I haul 5-6 days a week at near full load. Thanks for the input.
