I was just wondering what weight and brand of gear lube everyone is running.

synthetic or conventual ? Does it come syn. lube from factory? The truck is a 3500 with dana 80.

I have been using Mobil One synthetic, in fact I changed mine today. I also tow a 10K trailer, the old oil looked as good as the new stuff.

I just had mine replaced with Royal Purple 85W-140. I'm getting ready to pull about 7,500lbs loaded and figure it couldn't hurt. I have the limited slip differential and this stuff has the friction stuff in it. It seems to work better than the last stuff that a local lube place put in and they did not put any friction stuff in it. I did keep hearing some moaning and groining and thought it might be my steering when I turned sharp left, but after replacing with RP I don't hear this anymore. And by the way the shop that did this for me filled it up to the bottom of the fill hole. I told him my manual said 3/4" below but he showed me in the 97 Chrysler manual that it said to the bottom of the fill hole. Why are there two different levels? Weird. I told him to do what he normally does and he filled it until it started running out. It seemed to take exactly what the manual says it should take and he gave me back some left in the bottle from 4 qts.

I was using Mobil 1 syn.

Things got a little hot in there more than once (pulling heavy).

I have switched to RP 75/140. Everything is good so far. The summer heat will tell the story... .

I'm curious to see the results. Things were looking pretty bad in there (dirty).

Sorry, You need to check to see if you have a 'limited slip differential'.

Your vehicle id number will help determine this, just call your dealer.

Huh?

Again  ... .

Limited slip or not... . It does not matter if you use RP. "No Additive Required"...

I have limited slip and so does TDickerson.....

Am I missing something? Sorry... ...

Why call the dealer? Just open the glove box and read the sticker... .
