I have a whine coming from the rear end of my truck speeds above 45MPH. I also have a slight bounce at 40 MPH ( I think might be out of round new tire). Just bought truck and I am asking for input so the dealer can warranty. I am new to the 3rd gen American axles. Thanks

Could be pinion angle or preload. Hard to say, really, until someone who knows what they're looking at cracks open the cover.

You're sure it's not a u-joint?

Sorry to say this but I had the same thing on my 03 3500 dually. It took both pinion and ring gear bearings plus the output shaft bearing on the trany to fix. Just out of warranty at 77,000 and cost $1500

It sounds like tires. Did you have the whine before the new tires? Also you may want to check the oil level in the differential.

I have an 07 5. 9 g56 3500 with 3. 73's and it's done the very same things since it was new. I changed the diff oil at 3500 miles, but the whine is getting worse, making the whole truck buzz. I know it was set up wrong from the get go. Those 3. 42's are looking better all the time.

hmm i need to got the other way with gears to help my transmission, getting off the line and fuel mileage. the only down side is my stacks are too quiet too me and too loud for cops even with a single aero turbine muffler with built in resonator. so this means more rpms make more noise. but my 4. 10s aint doing the job. 4. 56 will make me happy and stacking 5" aeroturbines will make the neighbors and cops happy.
