What is the best way to get old oil out of rear end? I tried to siphon --no luck. Will I have to take the cover off?? I will be changing to amsoil synthetic. If I take the cover off do I need a new gasket or can I just crack it & let it bleed out?

I don't know about the new american axles but on some diffs you can take out a bottom bolt on the cover and it will drain, If not, removing the cover gives you a good look at the gears and a chance to wipe out the bottom of the case. take all the old gasket off and put a bead of good silicone gasket maker on diff and slap the cover back on. wait a while to let the silicone skin over before refilling the diff.

You have to either remove or at least loosen up the cover. I would take the cover off to wipe out any debris that is in there.

Do it right...

Do it right and pull the cover all the way off. Then you can clean the insides and inspect the ring. If you just crack the cover to drain it, there is a good chance that it will seep oil and make a big mess later. Then when you dedide you have had enough you will have to go through the whole process again  The best way to go is to install a Mag, get the extra gallon or so of capacity and be done with it...
