This subject has been around awhile, but I have just gotten around to doing my own investigation. Here are the results.
Stock suspension with 2,300# pin weight= a drop of 2 3/4" at the rear bumper.
With Timbrens added and the same 2,300# pin weight= a drop of 1 3/4" at thr rear bumper.
Ride characteristics - stock with 65 psi air pressure in tires.
Empty= a pretty rough ride
With trailer= fairly smooth, quiet tolerable.
Ride characteristics - with Timbrens and 65 psi air pressure in tires.
Empty= rough ride, different but no worse than the ride with stock suspension. Gives a very different road feel, nothing that you couldn't get used to.
With trailer= pretty rough, you can feel alot of surging when going over a rough section of road.
In my case, my trailer rides slightly nose high and the truck sits almost level with the stock suspension. With the Timbrens the truck retains some of that rear high attitude, but it also puts the trailer too far out of level. All in all the Timbrens work as they should and I can't say that I am suprised that the ride suffers when you add another "spring" to the rear suspension.
I'd like to say thanks to Silverfox, who gave me the set of Timbrens, and offer to give them to anyone who has an '03 or '04 4wd and would like to try them.
