I get a singing noise from the rear end with the sliding window open. worse when coasting around 50-60 mph. I think its ring and pinion noise. how much noise should they make.

Your ring and pinion should be virtually silent. If its making that much noise I would open the diff cover and check for wear. Also if you have a limited slip unit, if you open the diff, be sure to have the correct addative for the clutches. Dodge has a known problem with their limited slip units.

New ring and pinion, newly changed GL5 oil. Started with the new ring and pinion. I am fixing to get pi$$ed at this truck and rebuild axles and put a KORE kit that relaces ALL of the stock susspention.

Sounds like you've answered your own question? If the noise started following a rebuild / upgrade of the ring and pinion- if this was done by a shop - I would take it back and make sure that something was not installed incorrectly. If it's something that you installed, can you think of anything not done correctly?

if you just had a new ring and pinion put in and it's whining they didn't establish the proper wear pattern when the put it together and once they've worn together for a bit they'll always whine

I installed the new ring and pinion. I checked pattern and backlash, preloads, and freetravel, and solved the worlds problems for free energy... ... well, maybe not quite the last one, but it was set up VERY carefully, twice. Actually I need to put it on a roller/dyno and spin it and see exactly where the noise is coming from. After thinking back I noticed it after I started opening the back window while I drive. I do have alot of slop in the transmission/t-case and I wonder if its coming from there not the rearend. not sure. I will check it. I opened the cover this weekend and everything was really good. pattern was spot on and backlash was good.

Only thing that gets me, is the noise is speed constant, so its either R&P or fifth gear, or something in the final drive in trany.

You might be able to isolate by coasting in neutral at speed. By taking the load off of the pinion shaft input bearing by throwing the trans into neutral, you might be able to tell if it's driveline, transmission, or differential related. Did you remember to make the orientation fo the drivehsaft if you took it off for the rebuild?

Are you related to the Richie Hayes from Enid?

No, Sorry not relaited to Richie Hayes,< last name has an extra E... ... . anyways, did some driving, Noise is only when coasting in gear, gets very faint in neutral coasting. happens in fourth and fifth gear, any speed above 50, loudest just above 50.
