Rear Freeze Plug Tool Available Soon

Well I'm a little late, but I finally finished making five rear freeze plug installer tools. I know there were a couple of threads a while back with some of the guys blowing the plugs out, and saw a need for a tool that works with the engine and transmission installed. With this tool you don't need to pull the transmission to reinstall it. The freeze plug goes over the installer and sticks to it with a dab of silicone. You install three bolts and it pushes the plug into the block and sets it to the correct depth. You can then remove the tool or just leave it there to keep the plug from coming out again. The tool is 3/8 plate and the freeze plug holder is machined from aluminum. I also made some 1/8 plates that bolt to the back of the block to keep the plug from coming out if it has not already come loose.

I just need to test fit the installer and take a couple of photos of an install showing the coolant line that is in the way at the back of the block. It is a “by feel” install, so a good visual of exactly what is back there will be most helpful. The installer is also drilled to push in the plug at the exhaust side of the motor in the rear. It uses the standard Mopar 68005064AA freeze plug. There were a couple of threads that mentioned an oversize plug, but I was never able to locate a source for one.

I have not decided if I want to sell them or loan them out like the KDP tool. I have quite a bit of time in the making, mostly in machining the plug holders, but now that I have made a few and know what materials I need it should go a little faster. So I guess I need to know the demand out there.

I should note this fits third generation trucks only.

I've had a Smithy mill/lathe combo for a couple of years. It is a very nice machine if you keep it's limitations in mind. I choose it because it is compact. A stand alone mill and lathe simplifies things because you don't have to change set up all the time, but would take up too much of the garage.

Nice work on the plates, but you are the not the first to manufacture this.

In fact I seem to remember this exact tool that was distributed to some Chrysler dealers several years ago. The tool that was distributed even had the two small holes to do one of the side plugs.



I applaud your work and making this available to the masses.



Also note some 6. 7 applications will have to remove the trans adapter for this to bolt up correctly if installing a plug.

I test fit the five I made and took some photos. Four were perfect and one I need to trim a bit more to clear the engine adapter. Also looked at the 6. 7 and the engine adapter is over the lower left hole so looks like they will only fit 2003-2007. I went and left the blocker plates at home yesterday so I have not test fit them yet, but they are much faster to make. I used 4" stock for them and they also need to fit perfectly or they will not sit flat on the back of the block.

They should be ready to go early this week. I'll PM anyone that was interested. I just wanted to make sure they fit as you are working blind and it would be a pain if they did not work perfectly.
