I am putting a new clutch in, and decided to replace the rear main seal as a precaution, since the truck has over 150K on it. I called cummins and gave them the engine number, they sent me a seal - no install tool included. My service manual indicates that the seal comes with a special install tool. Back to cummins - they gave me seal kit this time, including the seal and tool. Problem is, the seal is completely different from the seal per my engine number. Cummins service tells me that the kit is all they use on 99% of "B" series engines.

Does anyone know if the install tool is universal? It is designed to put the seal in a specific location. Any help is appreciated.

They're quite universal. The install tool will bottom out on the end if the crank when the seal is in to the proper depth. What do you mean the seal is "completely different"? Are the diameters the same?
