is this covered under the powertrain warranty?? took my truck in for an awful vibration and metal on metal noise. . they dropped the transmission all was well with transmission and tcase. . told me the clutch was the problem. . while appart they noticed some oil on the backside of the engine. rear main seal needed replaced. put it back togther and then noticed that the u joints on the front drive shaft where shot... only been on the road for 42000 miles in about a year and a half . Anyhow come to find out the vibration was the drive shaft this whole time. . anyhow wondering what you all consider warranty items??

The 7/70 warrantee states that the engine, transmission, transfer case, and axles are covered. I'm not sure about the u-joints... . but the engine rear main seal should be covered... . as a matter of fact I think the engine is warranted by Cummins for 100,000 miles. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

It sounds to me like it should all be covered by the warrantee, including the clutch. If the rear main was leaking, how could oil NOT get on the clutch?

As for the u-joints not being covered... the entire ENGINE is a "naturally wearing item" and it is most definitely covered.

Just my $. 02.

I just saw the below post on another thread. I haven't looked it up in the warranty book. Hope this helps.

"hey Jeremiah, you know that the u-joints are covered under the 7/70 warranty and you only have to pay a $100 deductable? It spcifies in your warranty information booklet on page 9 for 4x2 and page 10 for 4x4. "

My $0. 02 worth would be that everything except the clutch should be covered under the 7/70 drivetrain warranty. If the clutch damage was due to the oil leak, and not normal wear, they should cover that too. Check your warranty paperwork. It is usually pretty precise in it's wording. Good luck.

just read that ujoints are covered. As far as the clutch?? not sure the truck has 42000 miles on it. . I didnt even know the seal was leaking no drips underneath tech found it when they dropped the transmission. This whole ordeal has been a real pain in the A$#. Crappy service is about all I got.

anyone had any luck with the rear seal being covered?? I would think that it would fall under the gaskets and seals for listed components clause? not real sure anyone know ? I have to go get my truck in the morning and would love to know. .

A friend of mine had his rear main seal replaced under warranty on his 7. 3 Powerstroke at 96,000 miles. It had a 100,000 warranty. I'm willing to bet Cummins/Dodge will cover it.
