OK I pulled the ol getrag and found out that my rear main seal was bad so I went to cummins and paid $40 for one and proceeded to tap it into place with a seal driver but there does not appear to be a lip or anything to stop the seal. I now believe it is in too far so I will pull it out and buy a new one. So what is the proper way to put this seal in so I don't waste another $40?

Thanks for any help.

Unless you really knocked it in a lot, just forget it. There is a factory depth but there is also a fairly wide margin of seal surface for the lip to run on. How far below the edge did you drive it?

It's a bit of a pain, but you can take the starter off, and remove the flywheel adaptor and drive the seal back to where it needs to be. ALso check that cam plug while yer in there. If it is dry, leave it; otherwise, it isnt a bad idea to replace it.

Apperently my seal driver was missing from mine. I just went ahead and got another onbe and it came with the driver.

Thanks for your input.
