Iam having trouble with the rear pinion seal. I have changed it 4 times in the last 5 months and it is leaking again. The vent is open and checked regularly. I have been using a CR seal from Napa. I am looking for suggestions or a better seal.

Does the pinion yoke have a groove or ruff spot where the seal lip rides. Does the new seal fit the yoke snug. Are you putting oil or light weight grease on yoke and seal at assembly. If your doing and checking all these things. It should work.

I had the yoke replaced after only a few thousand miles - it had a groove in it like it was not hardened correctly.

See Issue #24

Joe D did a write up on the diffs. He stated that a leaking pinion seal is (in his experience) usually caused by bad bearings.

The good news is that you can disassemble the diff and replace the bearings without going through the set up on the 80 (I'm not sure about the others. )

While you are in there, replace the carrier bearings too. Also, check the hub bearings. These things do wear out.

You are torquing the nut back down to 450 ft-lbs, right?

NAPA has speedy sleeves that slip over the yoke so you can use your yoke over. Kind of pricey but it saves buying a new yoke.
