On one of my very good buddie's truck, he has knocked his rear pinion seal out 3 times, and it is now leaking again. The first time grass got into it and wraped, and after that they go about every 10 to 15 thousand miles. It is a 2001 2500 CTD quad cab long box that is stock. He runs 75/90 synthetic schauffers oil with the dodge additive. Any ideas of why it keeps knocking out the seal??? Thanx in advance!!!

Been there done that!!!!

My 99 went trough three before we discovered that the axel vent line was plugged, once cleared i never had a problem with it again for over 60K. I now use compressed air at each oil change to clear all the vent tubes.

Hey Dodge Bob!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mac

One other item beside the vent line, it to use a factory seal. I have changed many seals that were aftermarket and would leak. The facotry seal is very well designed piece that holds up much better than the generic seals. Also, check to see that the pinion yolk is not scored. that will cause aleak. The seal from the dealer is not very expensive

How hard are they to change? I have one that leaks a little bit and the last time I paid somebody to do it and almost cost me $200 by the time they were done.
