2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Rear rotors?

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Need Rasp help ASAP

I need to replace the rotors on the rear of my truck and was wondering does it slide right of or do I need to remove the axle shaft. My old ford was that way. Any help would be great thanks in advance.
 
The rear rotors just slide right off after you remove the caliper. You have disks in the rear and Dwitcher has drums... Sou you do not have to remove anything else.
 
I just did my 2002 rear disc. You have to get a huge socket that fits the axle nut (I forget the size (mine was stolen with all my tools or I would go see what the size is)). The big socket will have a 1/2" drive hole in it. The axle nut is held on with a little driven metal splinter type keeper. The axle nut has a nylon type center like a nylon lock nut for a 1/4" bolt. Splinter like keeper pulls straight out and then you can take the axle nut off. There is a torque value to be SURE to follow to make sure you preload the bearings correctly.



I had doubts if I would be able to get the axle splines aligned back up. They aligned back up very easily, no problem.



Have the rotor machined, new pads, fairly straight forward. Assemble everything back together. RETORQUE the axle nut, the sm says to use a new metal splinter nut keeper, I reused the same one as it was not damaged on removal. The sm says to put the metal nut keeper in a different position than where it was on removal.



Check the differential level (I think I remember some differential fluid came out on the axle shaft, and maybe a little extra came out as well). Bleed the brakes (I just got speed bleeders, I'll add the size to this thread, they are Russell's, got them from my local REAL auto parts shop). When I did mine I totally sucked out the old brake fluid from the resevoir, fill it up, and then kept bleeding the brakes until I got clear fluid (55k miles about 2 years).

Mine come right off too... ... . Just did them recently after reading a thread here by "DieselMinded"... .



They must have changed something in 2002? Mine is a 2001. 5.....



Should have took pictures... ... .



This would be a good time to have pics... .....



I may take them off again this week to do some more frame painting... ... When I do... ... I'll take some pics..... Real easy...

They come right off (kind of) I just did mine and from how well they had rusted together you would swear the hub and rotor were pressed together, but they are not. after removing the wheel and caliper, you may need to use a little motivation (hammer :D ) around the hat of the rotor. but they will come off without removing the hub etc etc.

Sorry Dude but the 2002 in the rear of my 95 requires the hubs to be removed to service the rotors.
 
interesting. I have worked on 2 other disc rear trucks and both were like mine. discs came right off. I wonder if it has something to do with the cab and chassis D80??? Any experts out there.
