2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission rear shocks

My rear shocks are leaking and I wondered if anyone out there has a recommendation of what type to replacer them with. I probably should also replace front also. Truck is stock and I tow nothing with it. I live on all dirt roads which does take its toll on the suspension. Truck is 2500 4x4 148,000 miles with snow plow package which I have never used.

I use the RSX Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks all the way around.

If you've been 148k on the stock shocks then you've been driving on shot dampers for a LONG LONG time. Change the front and rear out at the same time, you won't regret it.

Bilsteins sounds great. I have them on my wifes' Tundra and work well. How do I get a TDR discount at www.offroadwarehouse.com? Does the replacement of front and rear shocks need to be done by a dealer? The service manual explains the procedure etc. Are there any concerns doing the change over myself? Thanks for any help.

I run Edelbrock Performer IAS shock on all four corners on mine and love the ride. I have 50,000 miles on them and will use them again. The are one of the best combo shocks out there for these trucks... ... ... ... . Andy

Bilsteins here too. OEM style replacements.



The shocks are fairly easy to change out. The front left one is bit of a chore though. Most of the nuts have a "wing" welded onto them, so you won't need a wrench to hold them. I used a a couple of long extentions to reach the top bolts on the rear so I could get them from the outside in between the frame and box.

Usually they have a TDR logo on their page and I think I clicked on it and followed the directions (was last year though). If not, just call em up, they're good guys. They are pretty good shocks and have a lifetime warranty. My bud runs ranchos on his Ford and he's put 2 sets in during the time I've had my Bilsteins, and that's only been since last summer.



The shocks are easy to install, I didn't have any problems with the install itself except after I got the front ones out I realized they shorted me a bag of hardware :{ So I had to regroup until they sent me the rest of the parts (which was fast). Just make sure you check each shock box to enure your new bushings are washers are there before you tear down the fronts



Do a search on replacing the shocks when you get ready to do it and you'll get some additional info on tricks to help ease the install of the left front one.

Thanks all for the help and info. I will pursue the Bilsteins. Just read the new TDR mag today and once again saw the warning about the dowel pin issue. Now I dont know which to tackle first. Transmission, Shocks, Rotors and dowel pin. Time for a beer I guess
