Newby Asks: Travel Trailer Shock Absorbers

Mike,
Do what I did and replace the whole camper to get new springs and shackles with wet bolts and 7K axles with G rated tires. It is safer, I did not have to jack up trailer and get dirty: just a little poor. That's all, but we did gain a fireplace with the camper and two A/C's instead of one and the 6-point Lippert Level Up-System to make changing tires easier.

There was a thread on the Keystone forum that one of the members up dated his suspension components after the shackles shanks where found to be worn and had the mounting holes elongated and bushings worn out. He also want to improve the ride of the trailer.

Here is the link to their page. http://www.keystonerv.org/forums/showthread.php?t=446

Thanks for the link, I will check that out.

Right now I'm like jealous as can be over your new "6 point leveling system"...... I really like that set up!

Thanks Michael,

Those look good to me. I am bringing the trailer home Sunday and will create an order after I do some measuring.

Well, it begins....

Sent the family down the river in the kayaks this morning...

1st lift as a test, if I block under the jack a little more I can bring it off the ground in one stroke of the jacks.

I have no desire to get a Cougar on the head.....

Good Luck hope everything works out?

Are those power jacks borrowed from the shop?

One thing I did on my cougar was to wrap the electric wires to the brakes in the split wire loom that NAPA sells. I than tie strap them in place. When I traded in the camper the wire loom was still in place and the wires had rubbed at all on any components.

Just a thought.

Yes, liberated jacks from the tire dept for the weekend.

Mikey,

Looks like a 3 bandaid project from here.

Setup looks pretty good, sliding the axle under, put it on a piece of plywood and pull the sheet? Bushing press, nicely done. I've used that technique for a lot of things, really allows you to feel whats going on.

Don't forget to polarize bleed those magnetic brakes before initial actuation.

Hope to finish this today, propane line repair set me back a day this week. This is the passenger side now.

Want to get this finished, and have time enough left to install my new Bargman LED tail lights.....Woo Hoo!!!!

I've also got a set of Peterson Piranha LED amber mid-turn signal lights that I want to install. If I can get those on today it will be truly ideal....... then I will have to pick out my new LED marker lights to match.

Have to cut out the lower trailer skin to install those, best to do when the wife is not around.....she gets a little nervous watching. It doesn't help when I mess with her by saying "Oh No, that hole was supposed to be 8" that a way!!! Can you paint that boo boo after I patch it??????"......:D

Put the new tail lights in last night....,

Plastic pieces of crap that I have hated since the first day...,

New lights, almost finished. I can't believe the wire nuts and Scotchlocks on this thing. I remove them as fast as I find them....
