Does the 2005 3500 SRW have a rear swaybar? Do you have to get the "camper package" to get the rear sway bar? I have my truck coming, and never thought to ask about that. thanks

No rear sway bar. It's an aftermarket peice which will have to be ordered separately. I can't think of the name right now, but it might be in our last TDR magazine.

I don't think you really need a rear sway bar unless you are carrying a top heavy load like a high camper. The springs are further outboard than on the 2nd gens and it seems to work pretty good. I carry a slide in camper when I'm not using my fifth wheel. I was considering the Hellwig but after taking a few trips with the camper I decided I don't need it. I also heard from some that have installed a rear sway bar that it does ride rougher. My 2nd gen had the rear sway bar and I hauled the same camper in it. I really don't see any big difference in the amount of sway between it and my new truck.

Because of the weight I carry on the back of my truck I thought I would need a rear sway bar,

(service body and tools put my truck at just under #10,000) instead I installed the longer bump stops from

Engery Suspension as seen in issue 48 of the TDR mag pg39. For me it was a night and day differance.

They where 40 bucks a pair and took about 10 minutes to install. Oh and the correct part # is 9-9109R

I can't say that I've missed mine coming from a '99 with a sway bar. In fact I end up in uneven terrain fairly regularly and I feel I get less frame flex without the sway bar.

I was told by a few dealers that sway bars are not needed on the 3rd generation Dodge because of the new boxed frame and the springs are heavier, much longer and further outboard. I have a large cab-over camper and I have not felt that I need them. My '95 had them and I feel needed them. The '05 actually handles the same camper better then the '95.

I was told the same story, hence a camper package was not needed nor offered. But... not to bring up a sore subjuct... WHY the heck did DC sneak in the "not recommended for camper" disclaimer? I have always been looking for a camper anf NEVER thought to even inquire if a 3500 would be able to handle it!!!

I am glad to hear this from folks like you in the real world to get the feedback! I red the article in issue 48 last night and think that I will get the HelWig.

Thanks, man. I have been trying to find an answer to the shudder issue. Dealer hasn't been much help. I did find your awesome posting about the u-joints. Very helpful.
