I had a rear joint fail, I did some searching and read to get a precision 351 joint. Well this is too big, it looks to be around a 1410 series. 1 piece shaft 2500 auto 4wd

Anyone know the # off hand?

My '03 is on it's fourth set right now. Finally found a parts store locally that cross referenced them to a joint for a farm tractor... . with zerks!!!!! $34 as apposed to $110 a piece.

Did they slip right in, or did you have to make any modifications to the joint or the driveshaft?

Napa also has a part with zerks - P/N 341 I think. Needs on a couple of swipes with a file at the sharp edge of the hole the joint fits into to slide rite in.

Spicer/chelsea has the correct joint for about $27. 00. I got two joints and install for under $80. 00. [I pulled the shaft my self]

Can you please post the relevant part numbers? Did you have to trim any of the yoke or modify the joints in any way?

I tried that 351 joint on my truck and it was too large (cap size).

I took my stock joint to a good NAPA today and the guy matched it up with a Precision 330 joint. They only had greasable ones.

It fits like a glove, no filing or anything, it slid right in.

Ryan; sorry for the delay, the universal joint #SP 5-188X from Spicer needs no mods. to fit perfectly. This joint is also supplied with zerk fittings. RAY

Good info!! Are the zerks in the body or the caps?

-Ryan :)

Just picked mine up from Napa today. Precision #295. I gotta go to the dealer tomorrow, I'll take one along and compare it to the "right" ones there. Greaseable from the cap.

Precision 295 is the number for autos. Precision 351 for 6spds. The 351's are SIGNIFICANTLY larger. The caps on the 351 are 3/16ths larger in dia than the 295's.

I put a 351 in yesterday and it fit "normal". Required some filing to remove burrs caused by removal and had to be pressed in with a vise, but that's "normal". Clean everything up good before re-assembly and everything will work fine. I had my brother help (actually he did almost all of it) because I've never done a u-joint before.

I'm not positive about the 295's fitting the auto's but the measurements we took and the measurements I got from the dealer were the same. Dad just had one replaced on his 03 auto the day before but we couldn't keep the old one for reference 'cause it had to be sent back for warranty.

The 295 is "heavy duty" and greaseable from the cap, WHICH SUCKS. Just one more unnecessary tool to go get. They take one of them metric zerks and their stupid "needle" type fitting.

The 351 is regular duty, but a HELLUVA lot bigger, greaseable from the body. I've never greased a u-joint from the caps and I've never had a problem greasing through the body.

The first u-joint I ever had replaced was on my '01. Factory joint went out completely at 32k. Replaced it with a greaseable joint (screw the warranty junk issue) and that one was still going strong when I sold the truck at 138K. This one on the '04. 5 has got just under 46K. We'll see how the Napa/Precision one holds out.

One more shot at you auto guys. The 295 looks like it should be in a 1500 when set next to the 351. Such a wimpy lookin' little thing. :-laf

I hope this info helps.

Oh Yeah

Precision 295----$24

Precision 351----$34 both from Napa

Does anyone know if the 03's with 6 speed use the 351? NAPA is listing this joint for the 04's, but is listing the 295 joint for the 03's with 6 speed.

Thanks,

Blake

My truck used the 351. There is a significant difference in size. Just take it out and compare sizes under the truck as jwilliams3 suggested. Or buy them both and take the one you don't need back if you would rather check it at home.
