CHECK THE VENT! It is so simple, I wish I thought of it. I changed rear wheel seals about 4 times, :--) Each time I ended up with stinky old gear lube running all over my wheels. Mechanic friend says CHECK THE VENT! BINGO, plugged with rusty old spooge! A scriber worked to clean out the metallic tube on the housing and carb cleaner cleaned out the rubber tube. No more leakage. :D :) :D :)

Hope this helps someone!

Mine is leaking again also. I am going to check the vent and throw on some new seals. Hopefully it will go away this time for longer than 20k miles.

thanks for the heads up!

I just performed a complete drum brake job (hardware and all) last week and I will check the vent when I'm back under it probably tomorrow finishing the front ball joints:rolleyes:

I sure dont need gear lube ruining my new shoes (brake shoes that is).

Anytime!

This forum is great! Like I said I cursed at and replaced 4 sets of seals, before my friend said, "What if... . "

Glad to help!
