Came out from my work in the afternoon and found this after a 98* day! Must have had a defect in the glass and had a small hole then when I closed my rear door, all the center you see fell. . WTF???!!!

This was just before going to the desert so I had to fix it temporarily. Look at the Plexi center window for hooking my 5th wheel. . pretty creative I think. .

Anyone else have this happen on the large rear window in the heat?. . Thought this was a little bizzare as it wasn't REALLY hot like 120 or so. . it was 98. . The rear window was facing the west as well so maybe that had some thing to do with it...

Haven't had that experience in nine years and lots of miles with three Dodge Rams. As a matter of fact, don't think I've even heard of it happening to anyone.

We had a Chevy delivery van with a long window on the side. It exploded one day while going down the road without any reason as to why. The kid that was driving said it just popped.

Although when I think about it, a lot of strange things happened to that kid. .

Mine did the samething last winter, closed the door and Bam sounded like ice falling off the truck. I was thinking BB gun as well. I have pic in gallery

My father in law had a 1994(?) grand prix that had two rear window glass shatter in two years. Those cars had an almost horizontal rear glass.
Now's the time to place you a window unit AC back there. LOL

Well truck is back together and new glass in. . Had $0 deductible so no cost to me. . the receipt total that charged the insurance was $518. !! Wow!. . the Glass itself was $365.

My last Dodge had the slider window and had no problems with that. . seeing a couple of you had the same thing happen makes me very nervous. . I will park my truck with the rear glass facing the east when it is hot. . going to climb up to 95 deg again this week. . will crack the window open a little.

Just a small nick or chip on safety glass can let it shatter when flexed. On a hot day i hosed the dust of my ford years ago and the windshield cracked when the water hit it. And at the time Ford was advertising how good their glass was.

I think somebody with a BB gun liked your window better

We'll have to wait until we hear back from Trace and DNA, but the forensics and photographic evidence indicate that the force came from within the vehicle. I'm also trying to get the security camera footage from the surrounding area...

Much glass was outside vehicle so impact seems to be from inside. with the tight seals on new cars I notice it's hard to close last door with windows closed. This causes alot of pressure in cab when closing door. Defect in glass is all it takes for this to happen.

Mopar Dave, That is really Bizarre having just the one side blow out. . I have had a slider window on my '01 before and never had a problem even out at Monument Valley and 116* heat!! . This is going to be a thing I will be cautious with. . even how I normally close the door now. . I don't close it hard or anything anymore. .

In the summer it might be a good idea to leave one window open a slit. It'll help dissapate heat also.

That's good for getting rid of excess heat, but we don't have to worry about pressure building up, like with the old cars. There are vents behind the back seat that vent to the space between the cab and the front wall of the bed. You can see them if you look at the back of the cab through that space. If you drove the truck into a lake the cab would definitely fill up with water, especially if the mighty Cummins dropped the front end down and the vents were pointed up.

Moral of the story is that when the temperature gets past 90* in the Southwest, leave your windows cracked open a little.
