The rear window defroster is now an available option. Cost is just over $100, so it seems like a no-brainer option. However, I'm thinking of having the rear window tinted. I talked with an installer who said there'd probably be slight lines ("bubbles") along the wires. Also, I'm not sure what would happen if I had to remove the tinting in the future.

Does anybody have opinions of tinting over RW-D/F?

Is there really a need for the defrost? My old truck did not have (as most don't), and I don't remember really needing it, due to the vertical angle of the window.

Also, does anybody know where the switch would be located. My fear is they may "over-flow" into the cubby hole space (SLT).

Should I get it or not??? My truck's "ordered" (Oo. Oo. Oo. ), but the salesman's not releasing it to the system until Monday, so I have a few days to decide.

I don't have a Dodge but on my 01 GMC I went with the rear defroster for the Heated Mirrors option. GM had put light tint on rear windows with defroster, no idea why they did that. So I had it deep tinted over the defroster. I have had this for 2 years with no problems. I also don't have any bubbles over the wires. So you have my vote to get it and tint it.

I've owned and driven trucks for several years and can't recall one time yet I've needed a rear window defroster. Maybe I'm missing something with the reasoning for putting one in a truck.

I agree with 1tuffram. I have had a pickup for more than 20 years and an extended cab truck for 12. I have never needed to clear frost off the rear window and I live in Montana. I have had heated mnirrors, too, and need to use that feature maybe once a year at most. Some options just aren't needed.

Not for frost but for snow and freezing rain that gets iced onto the back window at night. I'd like to have the defroster for that so I wouldn't have to scape it.

Don't need the rear window if you have mirrors. I think the heated mirrors are great, but wouldn't want the rear defrost window defrost if I had to pay a dime for it.

Dakota Count?

I have it on my 2001 Dakota, tinted and rear defrost. The switch is together with mirror heat. Its nice on them rainning nights when all windows seem to fog over. Windows are factory tinted so dark its hard to see the wires. I will order again on my next truck

Seems to me there's an awful large blindspot if you don't use the rear window. I miss it when I can't see out of it.

I do believe that if you get the slider rear window you can not get the rear defrost and if you get the rear defrost you can not get the sliding rear window... I too have never had my rear pick-up truck window fog up but the side windows do at times. I wanted the sliding window anyway, so I didn't have to think about it.

Komik, Did you have aftermarket (film) tinting done, or leave it as it came from the factory? The Ram window (w/rear defrost) is tinted, but it's not dark enough for my liking. (BTW, it sounds like if you do not get the defrost, the window comes completely un-tinted).

It really makes sense that the heating elements would have some adverse effect on the film, so my thinking now is to remove it from the order. Just one less thing to break, and money I can use for the other things I want on the truck.

The rear sliding and back door windows come thru with factory tinted glass.
