I have a 2003 3500 SRW 4wd and the rearend has a shudder when taking off and turning. It does it a little worse with a trailer. But it only does it when taking off and turning at the same time. When taking off straight, it doesn't do it. I replaced u joints, but didn't help. It has a one piece driveshaft. its a short bed. Any ideas?

Its your antispin setup making the noise/shudder. My 03 did exactly the same thing. Dodge told me to put additives in the differential. I never did. I changed the fluid and examined the internals quite often until I was confident something was not self destructing in there.

How long have you had truck, If someone changed the diff fluid and didn't add antispin additive it could cause it(assuming that you have a lsd). I'd try some of mopars additive and see what happens. Nick.

I think it is your anti spin differential doing this, but if yours is an 03' model, it does NOT have clutches/discs! Oil additive will not help in this case.

Oh- my mistake, I figured that aam were like the danas. I learned something already today, and haven't left the house yet!!

When I had my rear diff serviced, the technician said he had learned in school that even though the AA are planetary, friction additive will help the diff because of the tight clearance in the anti-spin gearing. This should have a positive affect on the shudder. Mine has never had a problem before or after so I can't tell you if it will stop the symptom. Worth a try, I think it was $9 and only a couple of ounces of fluid.

My '04 does exactly the same thing, it started right after i serviced it. i put chevron 75w90 synthetic, no additives, i was told i didnt need them. if you come up with a solution let me know. its annoying, even if its not wrecking anything

my '03 has the shudders but it comes from the driveline. Mine only shudders when the truck is loaded [2200 lb pin weight from my 5er] in 1st and 2nd gear and a bit in 3rd if pushing hard. I added Timbrens to help with to much sagging and it stopped the shudder. There is a TSB out for driveline shudder. If I find it I'll post it.

It's you're Anti-Spin, mine has done it since new when it's wet outside, and slightly turning, making a U-Turn, giving a little throttle and it's wet outside. I've never really noticed it when it's dry, but I can make it do it pretty much on command when it's wet.

In low- modderate throttle conditions, where the a loss of traction is present for a momment, you're shudder is both tires trying to lay down grip at the same time. This translates into a slight vibration or bounce and quite frankly is you're anti-spin telling you it's working. If you're truck doesn't do this in those conditions, you likely have an open type rear-end, check you're clove boxes to be absolutely sure. I driven a dozen of these CTD's brand new & used and they all have done it.
