Truck started acting up this morning. Did the ign. key thing and retrieved

0217 code P ECU.

I looked on this awesome website, and the code shows lack of power, over heating, something like that.

It did have a lack of power and would not shift into second gear unless I lifted off of the throttle.

Started thinking... ... ... ... ... .

Upper radiator hose was warm but not hot; water neck containing the thermostat was hot; radiator cap was not even warm. My temp gauge was reading normal 180 - 185 range.

So I replaced the thermostat and noticed part of the rubber gasket ( for lack of what it really was ) was missing ( located in side the thermostat where the two pieces meet ) Not the rubber that goes around the base, it was A-OK.

Do i need to flush out the radiator or even worry about the little rubber pieces????

Thanks in advance

Dave

Temp is now steady at 185 - 190.

Trans still doesn't want to shift into second.

Fluid is full, no funny odor.

I'm not sure what to check next any IDEA's. ????

Ok I have been told that sometimes the rubber piece in side the thermostat will pop thru causing it to stick.

So hopefully that is fixed.

I cleaned all the battery cables / battery terminals in hopes that would eliminate an electrical problem.

Any ideas ????????

Dave
