I'm considering installing a set of 19. 5" Rickson wheels and I'm wondering what (if any) are the reasons not to do so. How much does the weight of the bigger tires/wheels hurt fuel economy? Are the bigger and heavier wheels/tires harder on the drivetrain? Anything else? Appreciate any insight.

Thanks,

-john

The ride will be a little harder from what I understand. Also the approx wheel/tire combo weights are:

Stock aluminum - 80

Rickson Aluminum - 100

Rickson steel - 120

I Have a set for my truck. They were on it when I bought it. Downside - Rougher ride, They are heavy. Upside - When using a 19. 5 on a "light" pickup, not a commercial truck, the tires don't wear very fast giving you your money's worth

I agree, I'd say initial investment, unless you're getting a deal somewhere.

It will hurt the ride. You might want to look into those Centramatic thingies. That should help.

Otherwise, 19. 5" are all good.

Not trying to hijack, but...

I want some nice polished aluminum 19. 5s for mine but have no clue where to look???

Any of you guys have some ideas?

Vaughn? Which stock aluminum wheel are you quoting at 80#? Was this with the tire on? Just curious because I got an extra set of the 2001 forged aluminum wheels off ebay for my truck just in case. The wheel without tire weighs in at 20#.

if you want rickson forged wheel then you better order them now and get in line. I have been waiting for over 4 months now and I just got a letter saying that it would be another 12 to 14 weeks :{ :{ . so much for getting them before the snow flies.

Disadvantages

Approximately 3000 dollars for 5 wheels with tires delivered. And that's for steel.

The tires are heavy and might give you a hernia if you try rotate them yourself.

MUCH More rotational weight will mean less fuel mileage.

The ride is worse (who cares?) and they are actually a little scary until they break in. They feel like balloons sort of.

At the same time you can get 100,000 miles out of these tires. But you also might get 100K miles out of 16" Michelin XPS ribs...

Do any of you guys actually have these wheel and tire combos or is this just speculation?

The reason I ask is because I have a set of Rickson's 19. 5 steel wheels and tires. I would say out of all of the aftermarket accessories I have installed on my truck, my wheels and tires are my favorite.

I truly enjoy driving my truck. It went from riding on squishy balloon tires to riding on rails and it keeps on getting better!!! :)

I am extemely happy with my wheels and tires from Rickson's and would not hesitate to recommend there product to anyone... "remember you get what you pay for"

Did I mention I really like my wheels. :-laf

I had them. They were nice but everything I mentioned above. :)

I just went through a long back and forth deciding between Dually 16's, dually 19's and single rear wheel 19s and ended up with dually and 16's but this is catered to my needs. I would take a SRW 19. 5 over a dually in many!! circumstances...

Parks - What is your experience regarding fuel economy with the bigger wheels? I read through the testimonials on Rickson's web site and some customers claimed their fuel economy improved due to less rolling resistance (running higher pressure with smaller sidewalls). I called Rickson's yesterday with the intent to order chrome steel wheels but the wait is over 4 months because they are reorganizing and bringing the chrome work in-house rather than continuing to farm it out. I'm torn between the black powdercoat and the chrome.

My fuel mileage seems to stay the same. It does seem to be a little better on the highway but about the same around town.

I should be going on another trip soon and I will try to keep better notes and I will fill you in then.

I went with the black powder coat with the factory centers and Rickson's trim rings. I really like the look.
