Tell me how you really feel

I sence you dislike 3rd gen trucks. Thanks for your honesty in your PM.

Take a deep breath it will be alright :D If not i will let you have one of my Xanax. Just havin a little fun with ya, thanks again

Look at the bright side, my lose is someones gain, my 12V will make someone a nice ride, It's ready to rock. Heck it has over 4 grand worth of upgrades done. Did i mention all work was done by a few of michigans finest diesel and transmission guy's. Had to throw that in, you know who you are.

last year my '02 got stolen so I had to use my dads early 04 auto to pull my work trailer, I was in it about 2 weeks. Overall I would say its an improvment over the second gen, however there are things I like better about my 02.

3rd gen better

1) and this is the best thing of all, the steering is like a sportscar compared to my 02 4x4. all I gotta say is 2nd gen steering WTF!!!!!!!

2) smoother riding, both pulling and bobtail

3)the back seat room is about perfect, you can actually put people back there now.

4) I like the white face gauges

5) quiet motor

2nd gen better

1) the styling is better!!!! all the way around

2) front seats lots more comfortable

3) dash is better layed out, don't have to reach forward to change the radio or AC

4) huge comfy center folding down console,

5) loud motor

Don't get me wrong. I'd much rather have a 3rd gen than any eight-cylinder diesel. It is far superior to them in my eyes.

But when it comes to 2nd v 3rd. I've taken my stand. I'm a 2nd genner.

And there is no such thing as a "good deal" on objects that depreciate like house trailers. And then borrowing on top of that--double whammy.

Keep your 12v, it is a forever truck, unlike a 3rd gen

the cummins 600 injection system is a joke based on fuel economy. Prices are rising, why would you want to get worse mileage??

Good news everyone, well almost everyone (sorry curtis) I am kepping the old girl around, 12V that is. I got the dealer shuffle on the day i was to buy my new 05. That's when i realized that one of the best reasons to keep the 12Ver is that i don't have to deal with the dealer.

Thanks again

Joe

When it comes time to get a new truck, you'll be glad you're stepping into a brand new '10 instead of still driving around in your now 4 year old '06 :p

Whats funny is that I recently sold my 05 and replaced it with a 98 12v. fixed the front end, put a clutch in it, timed the pump, kdp fix, and some other minor repairs. I've owned an 02, 05 and now the 98 and I feel it's a fantastic pickup with excellent economy (consistent 8mpg better than the 05). I like the damn thing so much I'm not even going to drive it in the salt during the winters. (vw tdi for that). Best of luck with your decision.

I've had a 98 12v, an 02, and an 04. Decided to hop off the payment treadmill. So I traded the 04 on a 97.

I miss how the 04 flat cruised down the road, the six speed, 3:73, disc brakes, and the four doors. Great truck BUT...

I don't miss the thin sheet metal, the interior layout, the u-joints, sitting like a low-rider instead of peering over the hood, and sitting under a "green house" front windshield, but most of all the payments.

Right now I'm in the middle of a KDP tab job. Plus, I've already, with help here abouts, figured out and fixed the fuel shut off selenoid, and soon the funky fuel sending unit. I loves to tinker with my 12v. ;)

I picked up a VW TDI on Tuesday instead of a new truck. I commute 100 miles a day to work and miss the 50 mpg my other TDI gave me. For some stupid reason i sold it last year, at least i didn't make that same mistake with my 12V.

Here is what happened:

I'm the original owner of my 96 - 3/4 ton, all stock. Never got in to a panic stop situation until this Monday. On my way home from work, I noticed the ABS warning light on, together with the parking brake indicator. Checked the parking brake - is off, check the brake paddle - is firm and brakes seams to be working ( as lousy as always). Both warning lights went off and I continued on my way. Than, suddenly, the traffic stop on a dime! With about two car lengths of space ahead of me, at 40 MPH, I slammed on the brakes. And she just keeps rolling, as I'm pushing the brake pedal, now with both my feet. Realizing, she is not stopping, all I could do, was to reduce the angel of the impact by steering to the right as far as I could, without hitting the guy next to me. I clearly remember thinking " why is this thing not stopping? " Than came the impact! With the air bag in my face, engine screaming at the max. rpm's, I'm still holding the brake pedal down and the truck still keeps rolling. Than, the air bag goes flat, I found the key and turn off the ignition. Everything finally comes to a stop. What do you guys make of this? Is it possible that the ABS failed? How can I find out?

Do you have 4 or just 2 wheel anti-lock? I hate to say it, but perhaps you overpowered the ABS, :( when was the last time you manually adjusted your rear brakes? 2 car lengths away is a pretty short distance for one of these tanks to come to a stop, regardless of 2 or 4 wheel ABS. Did you get cited? Hopefully no one was seriously injured

for thoes of you that think your brakes suck i found the solution takes about 4 parts to fix it

1. 01. 5-02 rear disk brake rear axle

2. 00-02 front axle

3. 03-05 front calipers with mounting brackets and roters (they bolt right up)

4. 02 hydroboost and propotioning valve

5. if you want Crown braided stainless lines

now i dont even have to hit the brakes real hard and i can lock up all four and im running 35" bfg all terrains

Hmmmmmmmmm.

1998, 12 Valve, extended cab.

230,000 miles of happy trucking.

Moderately Modified

Andy Redmond is an excellent mechanic.

EGR brakes; solved that problem

Never failed to start.

Never failed to get me where I wanted to go.

Other than normal wear & tear, nothing has failed.

Thought about the new truck, but instead... ... ... .

Andy replaced the power steering pump, steering box and steering shaft.

Just had James Northum install a DTT transmission, no failure, just been wanting to do it. (oil is $65 a barrel, hehe).

Heck, now I have a new truck!
