Hi JMcFerrin, I would go straight to Cummins, from what I understand the pistons and rings aren't as expensive as you'd think, they're high quality, and you'd be hard pressed to find something better (at least for nearly the same price).

What happened to the motor?

Vaughn

I've got a good set of pistons with about 62,500 miles on them if you're interested in saving a few bucks. I switched short blocks after my "53" experience. I also have a new crank.

Dont Know How He Did It, But I Got A Good Deal On It. probably Opened Up The Blow By And Didnt Stop To Refill The Oil. Thats What The Mech Thinks, Only 132000 On Motor. I Am In The Process Of Pulling It Now To Make Sure Thats Whats Wrong With It. It Still Runs Right Now But Uses Alot Of Oil. Thought It Might Just Be The Kdp. Gonna Look At That First.

Just a thought, but a bad vacuum pump will cause apparent excessive blowby and oil usage. . . might try and rule that out before pulling a motor. I think if you can disconnect a vacuum line you can isolate the pump, but not quite sure how to go about it.

Also I saw two other posts where a bad head gasket was the culprit when someone was having high oil consumption and a lot of blowby. In another case a guy had a broken compression ring.

I would try a compression check. Mine was 520 psi on all cylinders when I tested it. Mine is using oil for some reason but blowby out tube isn't much worse than any other Cummins I've owned.

Good luck, Vaughn

Well Woundnt That Effect My Brakes. All The Other Symptoms Point To The Kdf. Oil Leek From Around Timing Case ,loud Engine Noise, Lack Of Power. The Only Thing That Kinda Points To The Vacuum Pump Is When I Start It White Smoke Comes Out
