What is the best source for a NV4500 rebuild kit. I am reading all sorts of horror stories from guys trying to get the proper parts to do this. Almost every transmission rebuilder I have tried to contact has never returned an e mail or a phone call. What gives?
There must be someone out there who is reliable

My comfort level with the NV4500 ends with the R&R. I have one in my Jeep and I doubt the small block chevy in front of it will ever hurt it. If it ever does need an overhaul I'll leave it to the pros.

A long time ago I worked in a company that overhauled some small aircraft components. I could pull anyone off the street and show them how to rebuild the component and it would be functional. After personally overhauling some 15,000 of those components in my time there, I can tell you experience makes a difference in the end product. I want the guy with similar NV4500 experience doing the overhaul, not the guy glancing back and forth at the schematic trying to put it back together (me).

I too let the pros do the rebuild. ST will either rebuild yours if you are not in a hurry or do an exchange.

Unfortunately ST does not have any cores to work with so I have to send mine to them---it might not be practical.
Will see whats next.
Thanks again

Hey Wherley,
I am FROM PA--Pottsville to be exact. Now I live outside Phoenix AZ.
There are many Transmission shops here but they seem to have so much business that they dont even respond to a querry.
Still looking. If I have no luck, I will do it myself.
Thanks
Ed

A few things to keep in mind, the advanced adapter bell housing is faster and easier then changing to the 2nd gen engine plate, and I highly recommend changing to the iron trail housing, cause the factory aluminum ones have a hard time with the weight of the NP205 transfer case

I had ST rebuild my 5600, shipping was amazingly inexpensive from Oregon. I wouldn't count them out. Of course this was a few years ago, so I am sure a rebuild and shipping are more money, but it was only about 10% of the cost IIRC.

I wanted a shop that knew what they were doing with a long track record and my choice for the rebuild was ST.
