I have a 96 and my HX 35 is starting to get some play in the shaft, it has 210k on it and just changed the exhaust housing a few k ago, but with the last oil change I noticed the play getting past normal perameters. I am in Layton Utah, just north of Salt lake and I am looking for a place to rebuild my turbo. I would like to go to a HX-40 but its not a priority right now so its just what I have.

Whats a good place, and whats normal cost to rebuild and how long does it normally take. I am going to ask Ken Jones at Diesel Performance but also wanted to ask you guys. Thanks for the info.

a great place is Bell Turbo in Stockton Ca... . talk to Pius, don't know what you have over there as to turbo shops.

Do it yourself, it's very easy. I bought a rebuild kit from High Tech Turbo, seems like it was less than $50. Took less than an hour to do the rebuild. Just lay out the parts in the order they came off to get them back in the right place.

I agree with illflem, do it yourself as it's real easy. I just marked the shaft, nut and compressor wheel so I could put them back together the same way they came apart for balance. I also bought my kit from High Tech Turbo. I had an exhaust side oil leak starting and this fixed the problem WAY cheaper then buying a rebuild. I have some pictures of my turbo job at this site: http://www.pbase.com/mark1974/truck

Thank you all for your responses, Looks like I will be doing a turbo rebuild in the near future. From the looks of it, it seems pretty simple, and should only take a few hours? Is there any upgraded turbine wheels to fit these things, or are they all the same?

Thanks alot
