I’ve had my 98 12 V in the classifieds for over a month now and the truck is in otherwise great shape except the trans slips a little in reverse. I have read that this can be fixed by repairing the reverse / overdrive section but my trans shop says with 200,000 miles it would be better to rebuild the entire trans. I agree but if I rebuild the trans to resell I will only spring for a standard rebuild which will not allow for any engine bombing in the future. It would seem that if someone were interested in achieving the full potential of this truck they would want to buy it the way it is and rebuild the trans to suit their needs…. I know I would. With a tricked out VB, clutch pacs, and TC the engine HP could be increased substantially.

My question is : should I rebuild the trans to sell the truck?

I agree, If I were buying I would want it the way it is. Your price doesn't seem off the things that hurt you are the 4:10s and only 2 doors. Most people will look for a bargain some thing older if they aren't getting the QC with the 98. And every one I know wants the 3:55s. Still it doesn't seem too far off... maybe try ebay?

It was an option in 98 to have either club or quad cab. The place I bought my truck from also had a 98 club cab, I too also thought all 98's were quads but did a little research and found otherwise!

Interesting - I didn't know that. So does it have the older style interior and dash then, or the newer one?

Personally, if I were going to buy the truck, I'd want it as-is, so that I could take it to my trans builder of choice and do the whole thing at once... With it being the last year of the 12V, I wouldn't think it'd be hard to sell - have you tried other sites like DTR and CF?

Chris

All 98's have the newer interior. 98 is also the first year of the short bed with the diesel. Go and try to find a 98 club cab shotbed 12V. Rarest of the rare. Throw in a 5spd and the sport package and you have the truck I have been looking for well over a year.
