I'm new to the forum and new really to Diesel trucks. I have a ram 2500 with auto--all stock. I pull a heavy 5th wheel through the hills of the east. I am looking to beef up the transmission to handle the loads. I have searched the web and found about three. Any suggestions on a great one. I(wife and the 5th wheel) would still like smooth shifts, but I want to avoid slippage and better handle the loads. Thanks for any suggestions. I live in Jackson Michigan.

My searches and reading have narrowed me down to only two contenders.

ATS and DTT

Both are good solid vendors who stand behind their products.

I would recommend you call and talk to them explaining your needs so that you get one tuned to your specs.

I can vouch for ATS in Denver. Clint Cannon, the owner engineered his trans to pull heavy loads up and over the Rockies. And they do! I've had my Stage IV for about 43,000 miles and I love it. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. They are family owned and stand behind their work 100%.

They are also affiliated with other professional trans shops all over the U. S. so you don't have to drive to Denver to get yours. TST Products of Columbus Ind, is an ATS installer, Blumental's Heavy Duty in Okla also uses ATS, and also Sheid's Diesel. These are 3 of the best Diesel shops in the U. S. and they all went with ATS.

Towing transmission

Hello Brooks, send me a PM with your phone number, I just sent you mine. I'm in Holly Mi. just south of Flint.

Regardless of whether you get a trans from me or not, I would be glad to talk with you and show you what goes on inside these transmissions, what fails, what needs to be fixed and upgraded.

I have a 'chamber of horrors' at the shop showing what had happened to some of the transmissions I have overhauled and upgraded. With these items and a little time I can show you the basics of our transmissions and help you to understand what needs to be done to help your's live a long life.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I'm not sure if this is the best way to do this but I want to thank all the folks that responded and shared their thoughts concerning this thread. Your help was great. As you can see from my new profile, I am sporting a new(DTT rebuilt-modified) transmission. I selected the DTT partly because I could get it done locally and the web recommendations.

Greg Long, lsfarm of greatlakesdiesel did a great job! He explained the process, allowed me to watch the teardown and inspection. I had other arrangements that prevented me from watching the build, but things went well, on schedule, and everything worked great. I can highly recommend his work.

DTT all the way. Oo.

I have 2 DTT trucks. :D

A freind of mine has a 3500 that got a local rebuild. Now that it is shot after less then 5k miles it too is getting a DTT. Him and I just took it in this week. Do it right the first time it will be cheaper in the long run.

Brooks: Did you get smooth shifts? I have the "Livestock" vb, but it is very "positive" :-laf Not jerking; just lets you know there is a good t/c down there :-laf I have about 40K on mine and every trip to town or where ever is an experience.

I just finished a DTT install on a bone stock truck. the owner loves the shifts and accelertion! from a dead stop. we added a EZ now he is really happy with his truck DTT just drive one
