its some valve thats swells in the converter and blocks the flow on fluid to the cooler, and burns up the trans.

it just says all 2003 autos.

It's the converter drain back valve. It is located in the hose that feeds the trans cooler. There has been a couple threads on this very item previously. My truck has the was a 3500, DRW, SO, 47RE (California).

I had problems with this very valve at Thanksgiving 500 miles and 1 day after I took delivery. It over heated (275 degrees) and when I took it in they replaced this valve and assured me that no other damage had been done. However when I picked it up it didn't shift right between third and OD. They say it was normal, that I just needed to keep it out of OD until I got up to at least 50 MPH. To say the least the problem got worse and a month later it was in to have the OD gears replaced. I wanted a new transmission but I couldn't get them to budge. :-{} :-{} DC has since bought it back and I should be taking delivery of 3500, SRW, HO, 6 Speed next week out of Colorado.

Hope this helps:cool: Oo.

Torque Converter

Hello,

Does anyone have anymore specific information on the torque converter recall for 2003 Auto transmission's? I have not heard anything about this and have not been contacted by Dodge. I looked on NHTSA web site and it doesnt say anything about it. If someone can post a copy of the recall for all to see that would be great! Thanks!

Mark

It's not a torque converter recall, it's just the check valve in the cooler line, it's been discussed since the recall came out last fall.

fair to assume?

Here are the facts:

B33 - Issued in December of 2002: Affected vehicles: Certain 2003 Dodge Ram Pickup Trucks equipped with a 5. 9L Cummins Turbo Diesel engine and an automatic transmission

C01- Issued in January of 2003: Affected vehicles: 2003 Dodge Ram Pickups with a 5. 9L engine; 2003 Dodge Dakota with a 3. 9L or 5. 9L engine; 2003 Dodge Durango with a 5. 9L engine; 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4. 0L engine; and 2003 Dodge Ram Van. Making assumption that this is for 5. 9 L GAS engines only.

Since my truck was made the first week of March 2003 the issue should of been fixed before mine was made since the B33 recall had been out since December 2002. The C01 recall would not apply since I don't have a gas engine.

Is my logic correct here or do you think I could still be subject to the recall? Surely they wouldn't build a vehicle 3 months later with a defective part from a recall - in a perfect world. I called my dealer and Chrysler recall and they said my Vin was not subject to a recall that they know of but neither acted confident in their answers.

Thanks!

 Ok just got back from the dealership for the thire time today. They called the second time and said it was done, so I got a ride all the way down there and guess what?... ..... NOT DONE!!!! They said that they had to make the "tool" to remove the old valve and install the new one and it would be done in 45 min. Ok I went back to work and as I walked in the door they called and said it was done not 7 min later. I knew there a lie comming so I went back to get it. They said that they distroyed the new one getting it in and put the old one back in reasuring me it was ok. Here is where I turned into a forensic expert. I opened the hood to look at the work, and guess what had not been touched. Having just come back from the desert the motor was covered in dust and there wasn't a d@#$ mark in the dust. You would have to remove the windshield washed and fuse box the get to those hoses and they have not been touched. I'm so mad:mad: guess I'll be getting someone fired over this. Thanks for letting me vent. Better here than on the drive home. I mean the truck is so big and the cars are so small:rolleyes:
