so your sayin that between january and august 2000 someone changed a standard installation procedure and then they magicaly went back to doing it the old way on the 31st day in august? How can this happen. Did someone with a 50lb brain come up with a new way to install the terminal and then found out it didnt work. Or was DM trying to save some money till they found out it could cause a fire? I just dont see how something like that could happen.

Yellowlab I agree!!! This kinda stuff is weird. Guess I'm lucky that mine was made in November of 1999.

Has anyone ever seen the modification they do or have pictures? I went through the entire Alternator to PDC to battery connections and found absolutely nothing wrong? I noticed that I have ring terminals on the PDC studs. Could the faulty ones perhaps have had the "forked" terminals instead? Would like to hear from anyone that has more details.

Here's what I ended up doing anyway: On the Alternator connection there was an exposed stud, though it was recessed. This could potentially short out from a tool when changing the oil filter. Rather than go to the dealer for the "special boot", I just filled the area with silicon sealer. It is completely insulated and if ever I need to remove the connector, I'll just pull the silicon "plug" out.

Also, on the alternator to PDC connection, I added additional shrink tubing. Can't short out these baby's now either! All nuts were torqued accordingly. Other than these changes, I do NOT see how anything could have alarmed DC enough to send out a notice.

David,

I'm wondering if they just installed the crimp

connector upside down on some of the trucks. I

checked my torque AND checked the quality of the

crimp. No 'wiggle' on mine and the wires look suitably 'crushed'.
