Potential Number Of Units Affected : 86333

Summary:

ON CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS, THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING MAY HAVE RECEIVED AN INSUFFICIENT QUANTITY OF GREASE DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS.

Consequence:

THIS COULD RESULT IN BEARING DEGRADATION, AND IF SUBSEQUENT NOISE AND VIBRATION ARE IGNORED, COULD RESULT IN HUB ASSEMBLY SEPARATION. THIS MAY RESULT IN A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.

Remedy:

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FRONT HUB AND BEARING UNITS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 26, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

There is also 145,000 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks being recalled for replacement of passenger air bag pack, and reprogram of airbag computer system. Here it is for both.

Nope, mine did not come up in the recall group...

anybody know whether this might be a problem with the 2004. 5. My truck makes a lot of grinding noise and seems to get a little louder while going around corners. I can only think this could be a wheel bearing or something in the driveline assembly. thanks for any info.

We had a wheel on our 04 seize up from this bearing..... it was a real mess to get apart and we were afraid for a while that the spindle might have been damaged... . I wouldn't let this go if you think you might have this problem...

If its over 36k and wheel hub assembly,its not covered in the 70k power-train warranty. it will start out as noisy than it will start to grind,when its starts growling it time for replacements. Dealers are asking $360. 00 each retail. but you can find them for about $200 /$240 if you look around. Our cost $190. 00 each Tri-County Parts.

I'm glad you posted this. My truck is going to the shop tomorrow for exhaust brake install. I have them check this out.

Thanks for this post. I just had my tires rotated and balanced. Big "O" svc tech seemed pretty sharp, said my front wheel bearings felt a little loose.

I'll be looking into this one.
