TDR members!!

Respond quickly--- It is decision time-- About 10 days ago a member posted that there was a flash recall ( owner telephoned by selling dealer). I received the call-- Freeze plug problem with CTD's w/ vin between 4G 12x xxx and 4G 3xx xxx... Mine is 4G221260--- Vehicle must be left with the dealer over night to ensure a cold start the following morning. After start up the procedure is to run the engine WIDE OPEN:--) for an extended period of time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any thoughts on effect to engine regarding long term durability?

I think Cummins is going to have to address this issue for me before I allow anyone to twist my COLD CTD to WIDE OPEN for any period of time.

Right now if the freeze plugs drop out--- it's DC/Cummins problem. Unless there are some very strong assurances that the LONG term effect on my engine is NIL---- it isn't going to happen!

And the assurance is going to be in writing.....

Let me know your thoughts on this-------

Klenger -- thanks -- I finished reading the referenced thread, sorry I didn't tab it; and ask such a bozo question.

I think I will monitor the coolent level for about a week. I' ve turned 3025 miles since purchase with no apparant problems.

Guess I'll have to stop driving and start readin'.

KJ6Q--- the depth of your answer is only surpassed by your location:D :D

How do you know the range of affected vin #'s?

RIA, I just received my truck's vin(dealer ordered 4/21/04-called DC and received vin 5/4/04). It is way short of the 4G3xxxxx mark. Like... 44,133 short! Am I wrong to assume that DC goes in ascending numeric order?

May I inquire into the accuracy of your information by questioning the authenticity of your source?

The service mgr read me the recall info he had received which included the vin range------ I'll read the document tmw and post any additional info that may help.

Haven't a clue how DC sets up their vin runs.

Just got my call today, she's going in for a pressure test this weekend... ... ... ... ... ... . really disappointed with all the money I forked out for the truck and bang there's a recall.

Grin and bare it I guess... ... ... ... .....

Yeah, but the problem is with it being a cold engine. The turbo makes enough boost to push fuel past the piston rings before warming up.

Decided not to have it twisted

Talked with Cummins--- the test was supposed to be conducted on trucks sitting on dealer's lot-- not on sold trucks. The engines serial number identified the engines to be tested and DC's vin number identified where they went, therefore, the range I posted earlier were for those engines/trucks that my dealer received.

My orginal post was based on what my service mgr told me. After talking with Cummins, reading the TSB @ the dealership and talking with my very trusted tech, we inspected the frz plugs, found no coolant residue. ( and the fact that my truck is garage kept with a center line catch mat that showed no leaks) I decided not to have the runup. We documented the Cummins info and tech's inspection on my data page @ the dealer.

The TSB CLEARLY states to check the vin numbers against unsold trucks. This seems to follow what the very polite and helpful Cummins rep stated.

Make your own decision. Hope this info helps-- it was the best I could find.

Just installed the SRT 10 A pillar for my boost gauge-- perfect! Atlanta distribution had 47 of them if you're interested.

Oo.

Klenger,

I really believe they didn't read the document closely enough.

Thanks for refering me to the thread I missed. AIN'T nobody mis treating my stealthy quiet and sneaky quick 325/600 but me!
