had the recall #970 done on my truck yesterday and when I went to pick it up they told me that they preformed 3 recall repairs, throttle cable, headlight switch, ignition switch. So far they seem to have gotten the throttle cable and linkage recall right, everything seems to be right, shift points, idle, throttle opening all the way up. I guess its worth looking into to see if your older truck has had all the recalls done. Now if I can just get the cruise control to work!

I got the notice for the #970 recall... . I'll get it done soon, but I don't trust DC with my truck... . too many horror stories.

I did the headlight switch upgrade myself as the 2500's aren't covered under the recall for that issue... . even though mine almost burst into flames and lit my truck on fire.....

IGN switch seems fine so far... knock on wood.

I had my truck at this stealer I mean dealer before when I had a power loss problem they told me the lift pump was bad and wanted $600. 00 to fix it, I replaced it myself through Cummins for $140. 00, it turned out that the wastegate actuator was the real problem which I diagnosed myself. But this recall stuff was free and so far I can't complain, I half expected to drive the truck and there be something out of whack but so far so good.

Mine is going in tomorrow for the recalls. I'm scared :)

Seriously though I hope the don't screw somthing up. The service manager is a TDR member and they do a fair amount of work on Cummins trucks. I hope it all turns out well. I just hate leaving my truck with anyone. I'm sure you all can relate.

IF/when I let DC work on my truck for the recall stuff I will be hoping like heck that one of their top notch guys is working on it... .

This would be the 1st time anyone other than myself and dear old Dad that worked on my truck... .

racingfanscjww, the reason you got 3 for 1 is because in the electrical recalls they don't do anything if they don't see a problem, easy for them. Your truck is the same as mine, it should've had a shock tower recall as well.

Okay I was doing a search trying to find the reason behind the ignition recall and what they did. Mine has been done supposedly.

My problem shut the truck off and it started back up and ran. You could hear the starter still engaged. Well jumped in the truck not sure what was about to happen and tried turning truck to on and then off again nothing still running. Grabbed pair of pliers and disconneted batteries. Reconnected and problem seemed to go away but when I opened door to put pliers away it happened again. I disconnected again and then unhooked the lead to the solenoid. Everything seems fine now I hook wire up start truck everything good so I would think solenoid is not the source of the problem but when I got home the starter wire was not hot either but while driving the ignition switch trim light comes on. Is this the recall or have I just worn out the ignition switch? Never had a car/truck this long/miles (224,000)even my 66 GTO I only had 104,000 on it.

Eric,

Your fuel solenoid relay may be sticking. It may eventually burn your fuel solenoid up. The fuel solenoid has two coils, a pull on and a hold. The pull on is high current and only meant to work for a short time just when the key is in start position. When it goes to run the hold coil keeps the fuel pulled with a low current circuit and the pull on circuit is disconnected. If it sticks it feeds back thru the starter solenoid so it keeps running. Stuck starter contacts can cause this too, but since disconnecting the fuel solenoid connector seems to have helped then I would suspect the fuel solenoid relay. I think Dodge gets something like $40 for it. That's still less than a new fuel solenoid. You should get the relay checked.

I think the ignition switch recall is to install a relay for the heater/AC fan. It was a direct draw thru the switch and can could burn it up. If the switch shows signs of being burnt it is replaced for this recall.

Oops didn't think about there being multiple solenoids I disconneted the one connected to the starter.

On the fuel solenoid one; the truck had stopped engine off 10-15 secs and it RESTARTED. Would the fuel solenoid have a delay or just keep the truck running?

And when I say the starter wire was not hot, I mean the small 16gauge wire that runs to ignition, it had no power running through it except when key was in start position.

The fuel solenoid is used to turn on and off fuel to the engine. Since there is no electrical ignition this is what kills the engine when you turn it off. This solenoid is mounted on the side of the rear part of the injection pump. I have no idea what might cause a delay before it started again. The pull on circuit and the starter solenoid circuit can feed back thru one another and confuse the issue. When you said you disconnected the solenoid I thought you had pulled the large three wire connector on top of the wiring near the engine side of the master cylinder apart. This connector goes to the fuel solenoid. It would be a VERY good idea to check the contacts in the starter solenoid. It may be sticking and the contacts so bad that they were not making a good connection. This situation could cost you quite a bit if you don't find it and fix it.
