receiver hitch

I see that there seems to be a difference in receiver hitches between the 98 and 99 model year trucks dose any one know if they can be interchanged or what the difference is? Thanks

I remember a recall on hitches to install gussets, maybe the 99 already has them.

The difference I have seen is my 99 has a gusset from the rear spring hanger to the frame on the bottom side,so that they had to redesign the hitch to bolt to the bottom of the frame but go around this very little gusset. I had to modify my DMI hitch that was on my 98 to fit on my 99 by cuting about a 1 inch square off the mount at the very back on each side. As stated above there was a campaign for I think 98 and 99 OEM reciever hitches to have gussets bolted or some thing to the hitch. I had it done to the hitch and put the hitch in the back of the shed and haven't looked at it since. So I think the 99 hitch will work on previous years but 98 or earlyer will not work on 99 and later at least with out some modification.
