Hello. I haven't posted alot before. Would someone be able to help me???
I have a 1997 Dodge 12 valve Cummins with a 47RE auto transmission and 127K miles. I had the torque converter and valve boby replaced last summer with Goerend products. The transmission has been working fine until last Saturday. I pulled the truck into the garage and drove the front end up on ramps to replace the oil & filters. When I drive up on ramps I put the truck into 4x4 low. Nothing was touched except the oil change. When I came down off of the ramps, I stopped to put the truck into 4x2. I always seem to have trouble getting out of 4x4 low with the truck running. I pushed the 4x4 lever forward into the neutral position then attempted to put the truck transmission into neutral as well. I got some gear grinding sound for a second much like putting a manual transmission into gear without the clutch. I didn't think much of this because it's happened before without incident. If this happens I turn the truck off and then put the truck into 4x2 (which I did).
The next time I drove the truck I noticed a couple strange things. The 1-2 gear change seems to "drag out" a bit whereas before it was a crisp shift. When the 2-3 gear change comes up the transmission seems to "slip" for a brief moment before catching. I also notice the engine rpm jumps up a bit when this happens whereas before the engine rpm wouldn't vary at all as it shifted through the gears before TC lockup. The slip doesn't last very long however it's quite annoying. The truck then proceeds through all the gears with no problem. The truck otherwise runs fine except for the before mentioned.
Any ideas what may be going on here? The transmission has never given me problems and has always had synthetic oil. Years ago after a transmission oil change at the shop the shift from 2-3 was "hard" after. It lasted for approx 6 months then went away. I always assumed some dirt got into the valve body?
Sorry for the long winded explanation, however any ideas whats going on and should I even bother worrying about it? It just seems odd this would happen right after the engine oil change.
Thanks in advance for any advice given!
